If you think that’s just another movie about drugs and stuff like that you’d better stop reading. First of all, visually this movie is incredible. More to say, if it was just usual movie without special adaptation – no one would find it so great! The movie is really dark and it is not a popcorn thriller as you might expect.
Almost every character in this story is connected with Substance-D, a very detrimental narcotic that sooner or later starts to play serious tricks on a person’s mind. But Phillip K. Dick as well as Richard Linklater were trying to show us something more than drug addiction. You now what? That’s all.

In the and I want to citate on Phillip K. Dick here: “This has been a novel about some people who have been punished entirely too much for what they did. They wanted to have a good time, but they were like children playing in the street; they could see one another of them being killed–run over, maimed, destroyed–but they continued to play anyhow. We really all were very happy for a while, sitting around not toiling but just bullshitting and playing, but it was for just a terrible brief time, and then the punishment was beyond belief: even when we could see it, we could not believe it. For example , while I was writing this I learned that the person on whom the character of Jerry Fabin is based killed himself. My friend on whom I based the character Ernie Luckman died before I began the novel. For a while I myself was one of these children playing in the street; I was, like the rest of them, trying to play instead of being grown up, and I was punished. I am on the list below, which is a list of those to whom this novel is dedicated, and what became of each.”

The spirits of earth are gathered to fight the alien Gaia. That’s nice! You may believe there is a Gaia, or may not. But your opinion have no infuence on the movie! Because it is a good one. The animation is, for the most part, excellent.

Enjoy Dr. Aki Ross, Dr. Sid and courageous Captain Gray Edwards rescuing the Earth! All anime fans will be in pure rapture. For the mainstream audience, however, that remains to be decided.
